The main difference lies in the sealing mechanism.

Double offset butterfly valves feature two offsets – one in the shaft and another in the disc. This design allows for a more reliable seal by reducing friction between the disc and seat during operation.

On the other hand, triple offset butterfly valves have three offsets – one each in the shaft, disc, and seat. This unique design provides better tight sealing capabilities by eliminating rubbing or interference between these components.

In terms of performance, double offset butterfly valves offer good control over flow rates and pressure drops while maintaining a tight shut-off capability. They are commonly used in applications where moderate pressure differentials exist or where tight shut-off is required.
