Butterfly Valves

Big blue industrial valve for the main pipelines

In most industries, the role of the butterfly valve is to interrupt the flow of either solid, liquid or gas within the process. A butterfly valve is a quarter turn (rotary) valve with a disc rotating around an axis, like the extended wings of a butterfly. Its closing mechanism is via a disk which rotates at about 90° from fully opened to fully closed. The shape and design of the disk influences the capacity and flow characteristic of the valve.

Butterfly valves are popular due to its light weight, compact design, quick shutoff, satisfactory performance and low cost. Butterfly valves are mainly used for isolation services however certain designs are suitable for regulating services. A variety of materials can be used for the body, disk and seat to make it suitable for use with almost any liquid. Although butterfly valves were originally used in the water industry, with more chemical-resistant elastomers becoming available, the use of it spread to applications in process industries.

At Laminar, we offer various types of butterfly valves (shown below) from size DN40 up to DN3000 with various corrosion protection like epoxy coating, halar and other coating options. Our range of butterfly valves is suitable for various applications including isolation and modulating services for water, effluent water, seawater, chemicals, oil and gas.

Butterfly valves are basically divided into two main categories, double flanged type and sandwich type.

Double Flange Type

Sandwich Type

Short face-to-face length (e.g. F16 type)

Long face-to-face length (e.g. F4 type)

Wafer Type

Lug Type

Butterfly valves can be also categorized based on the disc design. Our design range starts from the standard concentric, single-eccentric and double-eccentric designs. Triple-eccentric shut-off valves are available for projects on request.
